Biography:
Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah was one of the most influential scholars of the classical Islamic tradition. Born in Damascus in 1292 CE, he dedicated his life to the study, teaching, and preservation of the Islamic sciences. His title "Ibn al-Qayyim" originated from his father, who served as the superintendent of the Jawziyyah Madrasah in Damascus.
He became the foremost student and close companion of the renowned scholar Ibn Taymiyyah, studying under him for many years and accompanying him through periods of scholarly activity and imprisonment. Alongside his studies with Ibn Taymiyyah, he benefited from numerous leading scholars of his era.
Ibn al-Qayyim excelled in Hadith, Fiqh, Aqīdah, Tafsir, and spiritual purification. Known for his deep scholarship, devotion to worship, and eloquent writing style, he authored numerous works that continue to be studied throughout the Muslim world. He spent his life teaching, writing, issuing legal verdicts, and guiding students until his death in Damascus in 1350 CE.
