Biography:
Ibrāhīm al-Kūrānī was a distinguished seventeenth-century Sunni scholar, theologian, jurist, and Sufi master of Kurdish origin. Born in the region of Shahrazur, he pursued knowledge across some of the leading centres of Islamic learning, including Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and the Hijaz.
After years of study and travel, he settled in Madinah, where he taught at the Prophet’s Mosque and became one of the most respected scholars of his generation. Students from across the Muslim world travelled to benefit from his knowledge, particularly from Southeast Asia, where his teachings would leave a lasting influence.
Al-Kūrānī was renowned for his expertise in Hadith, Fiqh, Aqīdah, and Tasawwuf. Following the Shāfiʿī school of jurisprudence, he devoted his life to teaching, writing, and preserving the Islamic sciences for future generations.
